JAKKY BANKONG-OBI

SUNSHINE AND YELLOW

When you see the sun today
Ask him to lead you back
To a time when there was no reason for happiness
No tomorrows and no goodbyes
Or reasons why
No pie charts and bank statements
No time but now
A time when we dreamt improbable dreams
And believed in the meaning of our lives
A time when we danced to the music in our hearts
And laughed because joy was flowing
Back to sunshine and yellow
So you can stay so mellow
And be happy simply because you are.

POETS IN MORSE CODE explores the role of interpretation in storytelling. By incorporating Morse Code, one of the most widely used and recognized ciphers in existence, Saiterux juxtaposes lines of poetry against photographs and technical illustrations of flora & fauna from the early days of scientific exploration. Through the text and image pairings, the illustrations lean into the abstract elements of a story, recognizing that storytelling depends on the written word as well as the imagination, experiences, and knowledge each reader brings to the occasion.
