FIRST ANNUAL KITW POETRY PRIZE
Born and raised in Southern California, Erica Hoffmeister earned her MA in English and MFA in Creative Writing from Chapman University's dual degree program in 2015. She has both poetry and fiction published or forthcoming in So To Speak, Rag Queen Periodical, Toasted Cheese, Rat's Ass Review, and Literary Mama, FreezeRay, Flash Fiction Magazine, and Split Lip Magazine, among others. She was also a runner-up for the Janet B. McCabe Poetry Prize in 2016, and received an honorable mention for the Lorian Hemingway Award for Short Fiction in 2014. She spends her days reading to her daughter, Scout Séverine, in between writing, teaching, and perpetually missing home—wherever that feels like at the time.

Is a student at Concordia University in Ann Arbor, MI. She is currently
studying English, History, and Theatre, and hopes to work in the museum industry while pursuing a Master's degree in Shakespeare and Performance, or Shakespeare Studies. Her previous poetry publications include individual poems in The Peacock Journal, Concordia University's arts journal In the Moment, and as part of the PoetryLeaves exhibition in Waterford Township, MI. She also has a short story forthcoming in Betty Fedora Magazine. She has a disability called Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS), which is a connective tissue disorder which often causes chronic joint pain and health issues.
Originally from Egypt, Mary Silwance lives in Kansas City. An environmental activist, poet and mother, she is poetry co-editor for Kansas City Voices and member of the Kansas City Writers Group and is active in the Kansas City open mic scene. Her work appears in Konza Journal, Descansos, Heartland: Poems of Love, Resistance, and Solidarity, Sequestrum, Well Versed and Rock Springs Review and on her blog, http://tonicwild.blogspot.com/. Her poems have won first place in Well Versed and Rock Springs Review.
Graduated from Alabama State University with a Summa Cum Laude in English. He has been published in Typecast Literary Magazine, Type House Literary Magazine, The Best New African Poets Anthology of 2016, New Contrast Literary Journal and was longlisted for The Sol Plaatje Award and Anthology of Poetry and placed second in the Fitzgerald Museum Short Story Contest, a national contest for college students in the US. He currently resides in Johannesburg South Africa where he is at work on his Masters at the University of Johannesburg.
